All music classes at Briarwood study musical expression, rhythm, form, melody, timbre and texture. Students play a variety of Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels), rhythm instruments and electric keyboards. Singing and movement are also important elements of the curriculum. Some classes present a musical for parents and all fifth graders have a recorder concert at the end of the year. Grades K - 2 have 30 minute music classes twice a week. Grades 3 - 5 have music on a rotating schedule - 40 minutes one week and 80 minutes the alternate week.
