Field Trip

On Monday, we are heading downtown to board a Goodtime boat for our Marine Science Afloat field trip.  We ask that the kids bring a disposable sack lunch and wear their Shooting STARS class t-shirts.  In addition, we will be out on the water and may possibly need to deal with wind and wet weather conditions.  Please check that your child has dressed in layers, with a comfortable set of non-slip shoes for the boat as well as a rain jacket.

Important!

All students will need to be here by 8:00 on Monday morning.  We will be boarding the bus quickly and will attempt to reach the boat by 8:45.  In addition, we disembark the boat at 2:30 so there is a high probability that we will not return to school by the 2:53 bell.  Please make alternate arrangements for that day, especially for those kids that ride the busses.  It is a wonderful field trip and one that we do not want to cut short, but we recognize and appreciate the extra effort that this requires.  Thank you!

Missoula Children’s Theater

In the GWP on Monday, there will be a green PTA flyer with lots of detail about the upcoming arrival of the Missoula Children’s Theater.  This year they are going to be holding auditions for Briarwood students that would like to put on the production of The Princess and the Pea.

This is a fantastic opportunity for drama enrichment and creativity.  A permission slip will be included in the packet.

For more information about this event, as well as many others, please visit the Briarwood PTA’s web site: http://briarwoodelementarypta.web.officelive.com/default.aspx

Masquerade Bash

All students have now chosen an inventor to masquerade as at our “Bash” on October 31.  The next step of the process is for them to bring in a description of what they will be wearing as a costume and to write out their five facts (hints) on a 3x5 card.  This step is due on October 20. The complete assignment in shown in detailed form in the theme section of your child’s binder on a bright orange piece of paper.  We will “unveil” each inventor at our Masquerade Bash on Halloween and will have food and fun as well.

Word Study Review Test

Next Friday, October 17, we have our first word study review test of the year.  For those families that are new, every fifth week there is a quiz that covers the Greek/Latin roots and the Theme words from the four weeks prior. The review test format is all matching, with the exception of the extra credit XYL words. We will give the kids the review packet on Monday.  In addition, we have added a sentences piece for the review weeks instead of cursive.  The detailed directions will be in the Word Study packet next week.
