Year-End Auction
Each year we hold a classroom auction in June where the kids bid on items with their “Starbucks” that they have earned throughout the year for both their jobs and in our stock market game. It is a big event which a fun culmination of a lot of hard work. The kids really look forward to it. We are currently and gratefully accepting donations for our classroom auction. The dollar store can be a great resource for fun little things that the kids will really enjoy earning. In the past, items like books, squirt guns, art supplies, and rubber chickens have been a big hit. Thank you for your help!
Portfolio Night
We want to officially invite you to join us at our Portfolio & Carnival night on May 16th. For those of you that are new to Briarwood, this is an annual tradition at our school where families come with their students for a night a sharing and fun. The evening runs from 5:30 to 8:30. Classrooms will be open for portfolio sharing from 5:30 to 6:30 and the carnival portion begins at 6:00. Please plan on stopping by our room anytime in the first hour to see your child’s work collection. The viewing usually takes about 15 minutes, depending on the thoroughness of your tour guide!
Field Trip
Our next field trip to the Port of Seattle is tomorrow. The weather report looks pretty good, but we will be out on the water on a boat so the wind and temperature will likely be factors. Please send your child with a coat, preferably of the windbreaker type. Layering is always a good idea. We will leave around 8:45 and will return before 2:00, so the kids will need a sack lunch for the day. Think sun!
Science Fair
What a wonderful turn-out we had for our Science Fair! We were extremely impressed by the quality and diversity of the projects. We have many talented young scientists in our midst! Thank you all for your time, energy, and support at home. It is clear that our class has a great deal of encouragement and partnership from you. How lucky they are…
In addition, another thank you goes out to those parents that were able to come in on the day of the event and help us to set up, organize, score, and take down. Things went very smoothly because of you. We appreciate it!
Middle School Math Transition Parent Information Night
Middle school math is critical to building a strong foundation of mathematical understanding. A letter will come home this week with information about middle school mathematics and the path that your student will take as he or she becomes college ready. Please read the letter with your student. If you have any questions, you can find information on the Issaquah School District website or attend any of the parent meetings scheduled in May.
