Math:  This week we will complete lessons 11.5-11.8 on volume, capacity and weight and surface area.  we will celebrate our math knowledge in Thursday.

LA:  We are not going to read a story this week...we will have a spelling list though.   The kids received their spelling list Monday and took their practice test.  The words this week have prefixes (pre, re, un, dis, and in).

Writing:   When the kids are at camp they will be asked to write 1-2 newspaper articles about camp for our 205 Times - Special Camp Colman Edition.  So this week we will do a series of mini lessons on writing a newspaper article.

Social Studies:  This week we will complete chapters 10 and 11 on the events leading up to and the events of the American Revolution.

Scholastic Book Fair:  Buy one get one free...May 14-21 in the Library.

Chess Club:  NO Chess Club this Friday, May 16.

Briarwood Portfolio/Carnival Night:  Classroom will be open from 5:30-6:30.  May 16th from 6:00-8:00.

Student Council: Monday, May 19 from 3:00-4:00.

Homework Club: Monday, May 19 in Room 205.

Last Homework Club: Tuesday, May 20 in Room 206.

IMC Mini Choir:  Tuesday, May 20.

Mandatory Chaperone Camp Colman Meeting:  Tuesday, May 20 from 6:00-7:00 in Room 205.

Scholastic Book Fair:  From May 14-21 we  are having a buy on get one free Book Fair.  It will be held in the Library during lunch recess and after school.  A note was sent home Wednesday, May 7 with all of the details.

Briarwood Portfolio/Carnival Night:  Om Friday, May 16th our classroom will be open from 5:30-6:30 for Portfolio viewing.  The carnival part of the evening runs from 6:00-8:00.  Two letters detailing this were sent home Tuesday, 4/29.

Young Author Visit:  Our children’s author visit is approaching on Thursday, May 22^nd.  Paul Owen Lewis will be here to share his story and his books with the kids.  We will have an assembly and follow-up sessions.

Field Day:  June 16 from 1:15-2:45.

Fifth Grade Graduation:  June 17th @ about 11:00 (I'll confirm the time...with an after lunch Castle Ice celebration sponsored by our PTA).

Maywood Visits:  On May 23rd the administrators will come to our classrooms to introduce themselves and talk to the 5th graders about Maywood.  At this time they will hand out registration packets.  The administrators will be here from 9:15-10:15.  Later that day we will go down to Maywood for a tour of the school and a presentation by Mr. Murphy as well as some former students.  This will be from 12:40-1:40.

Box Tops/Soup Labels:  Box Tops and soup labels have been collected for the first quarter contest.  We should know the results soon.  The second contest is underway.  Send in the labels or Box Tops.
