Absences
"Excused absences may occur for illness, medical or dental appointments, or
an emergency. If you must take your child out of school for a personal reason,
please talk with your child's teacher and contact the school office. If your
child messes school, please call the Check-a-Child telephone number to report
the absence. It is important that we know where all students are for their
personal safety. A note must accompany your child when he/she returns
following the absence. If a pattern of frequent absences develops, parents may
be contacted via phone and /or mail to determine a course of action, and a
written note from a doctor may be required to excuse future absences."
(Briarwood Elementary 2005-2006 Behavior Expectations)
Excuses
Parents must make personal contact with the teacher or the office, or send a
written excuse with the child after each absence or for a late arrival at
school. These notes are kept in a file for the year.
Early Dismissals
Children who are leaving school early should bring a note from home.
The office will call for that child when their parent comes to pick them
up. The parent will then sign the child out on the form in the office and sign
the child back in if appropriate. No child is to leave the campus during
the school day without first reporting to the office.
Celebrations
Throughout the year, we have special celebrations in our room. Birthdays are
more than welcome. Just drop a line or a call at least the day before.
Cupcakes, cookies or small plastic bags of treats are the most manageable
snack. Usually we have a short 15-minute celebration near the end of the school
day.
If you wish to send out invitations for an out-of-school party, I do
request that an invitation be given to everyone in the classroom. Many times
feelings are hurt if only a portion of the room receives them. You can find
mailing addresses in the PTA phone directory. If your child has a summer
birthday, we usually pick a "special date" during the school year.
Visitors
Parents may visit the school during the school day. All visitors must
"sign in " at the office upon arrival, and wear a "VISITOR" badge. This is for
SAFETY reasons.
